As you know, you can enjoy traveling or you can make new friends from another country. Since these are the big motivations when you learning a new language, we asked “what is the thing you could do and what is your motivation of learning English?” to Japanese high school students.

The answers

I could communicate and exchange our ideas with people from different countries.
I could get new informations that you cannot get from Japan.
I could get real voices from local and could know more about there that you cannot learn from a text book.
I could broaden my dream. For example, study fashion in France, study business in America, learn how to cook in Italy and so on.
I could make a lot of friends from different countries.
I could feel the culture of other country.
I could get the different point of view.

We asked them another questions...

What is your motivation of learning English?

I want watch overseas dramas and movies.
I want understand the interviews of my favorite singer.
I want to study abroad.
I want to travel abroad.
I want to communicate with people from all over the world.
I want to solve SDGs.

What we could know from the questionnaire

It’s efficient for you to communicate with the language you’re learning to improve your language skill.
Many people could do many things by learning a new language such as making new friends and getting new information.

半年で新しい言語をマスターする方法

クリス・ランズデールによる、半年で新しい言語をマスターするための5個のルールと7つの行動

5個のルール

あなたと関係する内容に集中する。
新しく学んだ言語を一日目から、コミュニケーションツールとして使う。
初めて新しい言葉を理解した時、あなたは無意識にその言葉を身につけている。
書く、読むだけでなく、口や耳を使って言語を学ぶ。

(例)・単語を声を出して読む

・単語や学んでる言語での会話を聞く　　

知らない言葉にあっても不安にならないこと。気にしないこと。知っている、理解している言葉だけに集中して、どんどん学んでいけば大丈夫！

7つの行動

学習している外国語をとにかくたくさん聞く(理解できるかは関係なく、言葉のパターンやリズムなどの目立つ部分に集中すれば良い)
言葉より先に意味を知ること

(コミュニケーションは言葉だけでなくジェスチャーでも行われている。)

(例)

相手:走っているジェスチャーをしている

相手:running is ~~

自分:ランニング？走ること？(と理解できる)

知っている言葉を掛け合わせる。

例　英語なら、10個の動詞と10個の名詞と10個の副詞を掛け合わせると1000個の文を作ることができる。

~完璧でなくても、伝われば大丈夫！~

核の部分に集中すること

例　英語の場合、1000語で日常会話の85%をカバーできる。3000語なら98%！

1週目　これは何？これはどうやって使うの？意味がわからない！　などといった使い回しできる言葉を覚える
2,3週目　あなた、それ、私、あげる、熱い、などといった簡単な名詞、代名詞、動詞、形容詞を使って幼児のようにコミュニケーションを取る。
3,4週目　but, and, even though などの繋ぎ言葉を覚える。文をつなげてより複雑な意味を表せるようにする。
完璧でない言葉遣いでも外国語でコミュニケーションをとれる相手を見つける

※ その相手になる条件

1. あなたの言い方が変でも理解しようとする人

2. あなたの間違いを無理に訂正しないこと

3. あなたが言ったことをどう理解したか、フィードバックを返し、あなたが適切な受け答えや正しい言い方が分かるようにすること。

4. あなたにわかる単語を使う人

ネイティブスピーカーの発音するときの顔の動きを真似する。

※顔の動きに対する音を聞き、聞いた音で顔の動きを直すということ。

と言うように、外国語をイメージに結びつけて覚える。

新しい言語でコミュニケーションがとれるようになると、海外旅行をして異文化を体験したり、新しい価値観を知ることができます。

そこで私たちは、日本の高校生に「英語が使えるようになってできたこと」についてのアンケートを取りました。

アンケート結果

英語が使えるようになってできたこと

海外の人とコミュニケーションがとれ、意見を交換できた。
日本にはない、新しい情報を知る事。
海外の現地の人たちの声が聞け、報道されない現地の実情が知れた。
日本のマスコミの情報操作に惑わされずに事実が知れた。
海外大学進学など、進学の選択肢が増えた。
海外で友達ができた。
現地で自分の肌で異文化を感じられた。
海外での生活で新しい価値観を得た。
海外の人とのコミニュケーションで視野が広かった。

他にも、英語を勉強する上でのモチベーションや学習方法などについて質問しました。

なぜ英語を勉強するのか(モチベーション)

海外映画・ドラマを英語で見たいから。
好きな海外アーティストのインタビュー内容を理解したいから。
海外留学をしたいから。
海外旅行をしたいから。
海外の人とコミュニケーション渡りたいから。
他の国のSDGsを達成するための手助けをしたいから。

アンケートを通して分かったこと

たくさんの人が英語の勉強によって、海外で友達を作れたり、新しい価値観を得たり、日本語では得られない情報を知れたりと、”新しい経験”ができるようになる。
英語を使って実際にコミュニケーションをとることが、英語力向上につながる。

こんにちは！

私たちは第二言語学習者サポーター(略称SLLS)です。

　無料で各言語の4技能を鍛えられるアプリがたくさんある中、アプリを継続的に使って第二言語で実際にコミュニケーションができるようになった人はどれくらいいるでしょうか？

　そこで私たちは、第二言語を学習する人たちが、途中でつまずかずに言語習得できるようなサポートをしたいと思い、このサイトを立ち上げました。

　このサイトでは、私たちの科学的知識や第二言語学習者の協力により、効果的な学習方法を提供しています。その中でも私たちが1番お勧めするものは、「軽いエクササイズをしながらの言語学者」の記録です。

　さまざまな英語学習研究によると、軽いエクササイズをしながら言語学習をすると、エクササイズをしない場合に比べて暗記力が上がったということが報告されています。

　さあ、あなたもこのポストに学習を記録して、語学スキルをアップさせましょう！

　　For the first tip, we recommend you to study your second language while you’re exercising. Do not exercise hard because it will reduce the rate of improvement in memorization by exercising.

How to record

From scientific researches, it’s better to record your effort than not recording. It’s because you will be motivated and will have the power to continue if you can know how hard you worked.

　　To protect your safety, be sure to go in a large space at home or in a park. Never do it on the road or in high places. Exercising while studying reduces your attention to safety.

We just wanted to help people who study language.

There are a lot of apps that you can improve skill of reading, writing, listening, speaking. But you need continuity to be able to communicate with the language you learn by using the app.
